I have a few questions what programs can we put in the ext rom? Like I would like to have the registry editior, total command, agile messenger, and tcpmp already installed when I do a hard reset are these all possible? also would i be able to change that sprint picture to another picture same dimensions and name?

still no replies hope someone replies soon. I did manage to put another image in the place of the spint logo i a, going to keep on playing with it to see if a gif will work instead of a bitmap that will be interesting. Also I was wondering if there was anyway to stop the ext_rom_unlocker from saying successful? That is just about the only thing that is keeping me from unlocking the ext_rom on a hard reset

Wow Nobody is ever gonna post. Well for what its worth I played around a lot and i was getting tired of having to load the ext rom tools every time i did a hard reset. So since i couldnt have them install automatically because one requires user input just the ok button, I just decided to copy it to the my documents folder while the customization is going on here is what my config.txt file looked like:

Code:

SHOW:\Extended_ROM\Sprint_Logo.bmp
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Cert_SPCS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Cert_SPCS.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\IOTA.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Customize_SPCS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ButtonLock.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Enable_RingTone.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\tcmdwincearm.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\tcpmp.arm_ce3
CAB: \Extended_ROM\AgileMessengerPPC.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\mbutton.PPC_ARM.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\regedit.Mrln_ARM.CAB
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\AddContact
CPY2:\Windows\AddContact
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\AddContacts.exe
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe
CPY2:\My Documents\APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\Unlock_Ext_Rom_Wizard.CAB
CPY2:\My Documents\Unlock_Ext_Rom_Wizard.CAB
LOCK:Disabled
RST: Reset

And this is the image I have in the background

I was just poking around in other forums, and found another interesting way to get rid of junkware that DOESN'T require a hard reset. Basically, download and install the files from the first post in this thread, then go to the Extended ROM2 folder. Install all the .cab files you'd like to get rid of. This will make them appear in the add/remove programs list. Then just go there and remove the programs manually yourself.

The benefit of this method is it doesn't need a hard reset (and it's a little simpler than what I posted before). The drawback is that it needs to be redone after any hard reset.

I haven't tried this myself, but others have said it works. Let me know how it goes if you decide to try it.

If you want to use this method to get rid of Audible, make sure you launch audible, goto file and delete all the samples before you use remove programs to remove the audible software. Otherwise the samples will be left over in the device. They take up almost 5MB.

You know, I'm a complete newbie here but I'm a far cry from computer illiterate. I just received my PPC-6700 today and spent the whole night trying to find out what this ROM update is all about. Back and forth between forums and NOT ONE actually explained what is was - only how to install it. I figured out that it's a major update to the phone and did it. The next step in the must do thread leads me here. I swear I am up to my neck in confusion.

I am assuming it's because this is my first Pocket PC but come on - there's just not enough to help a newbie along considering the instructions in the Must Do thread begin with you taking the device out of the box.

For a fresh persepective, consider that I DID just take it out of the box, I installed ActiveSync, I did the ROM update, and here I am. I have NO idea how to do what is in this thread. For example, it says to download the attached file. Nevermind that someone not actually logged in will never see these files (that took me about 10 minutes of scanning the entire page to realize). I mean, I just registered and then began surfing the site. A little notice saying only logged in users could see the attachment would be nice.

Now that I have them, how do I copy them to my device? All it says is to copy it to the device - but where? What folder? Afterwards, where will I get to it on the PPC? Ok, so I toss them into the sync folder that now has a shortcut on my desktop. What now? Where are they on the 6700 after I sync? Ok, then, I bypass that by using search to find these things. I see them show up in the search results (still have no idea where they are) and run one, then the other. As a couple of posters already said, the first is "successful" and the next won't run. At that point someone says to run it (the exe) from your computer. Well, it won't do jack when I double click it. Read a few posts later when someone mentions the same problem and now someone says to run the same that SAME file from the 6700.

I am so lost. So far, none of what is here is as newbie friendly as it should be.

Ok, one thing I am working on that doesnt seem to work right for me... I have setup the ROM UNLOCK cab file to auto install from the Extended ROM upon a hard reset. This works great and successfully unlocks the partition... however after the file executes itself, the file disappears (apparantly the programmer intended it to automatically clean itself up after one run) Any good cab coders able to make a single cab file, that wont self destruct after it runs, and changes the two registry values that unlock said partition? I know a lot of things, but making cabs is yet beyond me. I surely would appreciate any help! Thx

lol.. over the last two hours I have learned to make cab files (its been fun)... still no dice on this. I created my own cab file with just the two registry settings that unlock the Extended partition... I have tried EVERYTHING it seems to make this work. Everytime I hard reset, it will install my cab file and successfully unlock and unhide the partition... sweet. But when I go into the extended ROM after its up and running again, my cab file has disappeared! GONE, FINITO... wierd. None of the other cabs mysteriously disappear when they install, why would this one? Has anyone else had this problem, and if you did, how did you solve it?

Beyond that, I did find a sort of workaround, which works but is not the way I would wish it to work... Rather than try to explain it, I will show you what I have done to make it (sorta) work....

Modified config.txt looks like this

LOCK:Enabled
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\Ext_ROM_unlock.sa.CAB
CPY2:\Windows\Ext_ROM_unlock.sa.CAB

CAB: \Extended_ROM\DirectShow.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\RTPlugin_CDMA.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Cert_SPCS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Cert_SPCS.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\IOTA.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Customize_SPCS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ButtonLock.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Enable_RingTone.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PhoneSetting_HelpFile.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PowerICON.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TimeSync.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ResString.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_IOTA_v1_10_Apache_206300.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_ErrCodeForSPCS_Apache_206300.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PT_RemoveHTCBatteryICON_Apache_206300.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_Version_Apache_206300.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_HTC_CM_Guardian_Apache_206300.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Ext_ROM_unlock.sa.CAB
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\AddContact
CPY2:\Windows\AddContact
CPY1:\Windows\Ext_ROM_unlock.sa.CAB
CPY2:\Extended_ROM\Ext_ROM_unlock.sa.CAB

EXEC:\Extended_ROM\AddContacts.exe
LOCK:Disabled
RST: Reset

See what I have done is have the unit copy the file into the Windows directory (just for temporary safekeeping)...
After that, the cab file executes from the Extended ROM directory (and subsequently deletes itself)
Finally as it completes, I have it copy the file back to the Extended ROM directory...

Lots of extra work for something so small... this method doesnt bother me except it leaves an extra copy of the file sitting in my windows directory... If there were a way to turn the final copy command into a MOVE command, it would be perfect and flawless for me. However I dont know if the config file supports MOVE commands or not, let alone how to code it into the text file... So if ANYBODY knows the list of commands supported by the phone in the config file, I would LOVE to know what they all are.

Ok.. done for now.. hopefully somebody can chime in and help out here! Thanks!
