Registry Hack: Fix "Pocket PC Networking: Unable to obt

Fix for "Pocket PC Networking: Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address." while connected via ActiveSync.

Set HKLM/Comm/RNDISFN1/Parms/TcpIp/EnableDHCP to 0

BTW, This problem is caused by what appears to be a bug in WM5 settings page for the 'Remote-NDIS Host' in Start-Settings-Connections-Network Cards-Configure Network Adapters. When you tap Remote-NDIS Host to view the settings, it is set to use a specific IP address but the address is blank. WM5 will not let you exit this settings page unless you:
A - enter an IP address
B - tap use server assigned IP address

I chose to do 'B', and that's when this problem started for me. I couldn't figure out a way to use the settings page to fix it Sad

Cool - thanks for the confirmation. I was a bit concerned about the 'RNDISFN1' key name, considering the way it is 'pointed' to by the 'Linkage' key under 'RndsFn'. I was concerned that some may have 'RNDISFN2' or something.

Glad it worked for you Cool

For some reason mine is already set to "0" and I still get that error. Also does anyone know if you can setup the ppc 6700 as a static ip because my main computer has a set static ip and DHCP disabled, which makes the ppc 6700 never obtain an ip address.

I can go online through activesync OK.

I still believe that this problem is caused by messing with the settings in 'Connections-Network Cards-Configure Network Adapters'. You may have changed something in addition to what this hack addresses. I would recommend that both of you look at the 'HKLM/Comm/*' settings in the appropriate virgin registries posted here (stickies) and compare them to your registry settings. Maybe you'll spot something. If so, be sure to let us all know! Smile

I actually got that error the other day which had to do with my bluetooth headset. When I closed the headset, the phone then said that error. Other times when I power off the bluetooth in the phone, I get the same error. Maybe have something to do with that option of using bluetooth to stream internet to a pc. Don't really know.

I have noticed several times in the last week since I upgraded to the new ROM that in the morning when I wake up and grab my phone I see this error on my screen. Any one else having these issues? I do have push enabled during these hours but it would seem odd for it to do this now how as before the rom update it was syning every 5mins during those hours and no errors.

Here's some additional info...

I had this working and then it stopped. After some playing around, I got it working again. First I deleted the PCs my ActiveSync had listed, then in Active Sync Menu=Connections I unchecked the box that says "Sync all PCs with using this connection"

Seems to be working great now.

Well, that didn't really work. I thought unchecking the box worled, it did allow me to charge through the usb while surfing, but the PC could not see the phone.

Deleting one of the servers got rid of the "can not connect" popup (not the browser error, the popup when putting in the usb), but that didn, fix the problem either.

The frustrating thing is this WAS working for me.

If anyone comes up with an answer I would love to hear it.

Okay...This works at home but not at work. At home I'm using dynamic IP. At work, maybe static or DHCP??

Ideas?

DHCP is an abbreviation for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol which assigns dynamic IPs. You can verify your connection type by viewing the TCP/IP properties on your active connection. "Assign IP automatically" means you have a dynamic, rather than static IP.

For the "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address..." error try setting the Remote-NDIS Host to "Use Specific Ip address:

IP: 196.254.2.1
SM: 255.255.0.0
GW: 196.254.2.2
